.CA Domains come up available, but registered to someone else?

Hello discuss-list,

In regards to the Advanced Registrations, now I know this was on a
first serve, first come basis...but here's the situation.

I looked up x.ca(for example) in mid September and registered it, as it came up
available. I look today and it's registered to somebody completely
different.

Now, does this mean that my clients who have done an Advance
Registration for a domain are not guaranteed that domain? I was not
aware of this, although I'm sure I read all the material published by
OpenSRS.
